Before I released my CD last summer, my publicist, Richard Flohil said to me: "For God's sake, Wheatley, get something up on youtube."
I headed to Parry Sound for a few days off with my friend Samantha Armstrong. I brought along my guitar and a video camera thinking that Sam could tape me singing one of my new songs - maybe sitting on a bench with a nice view of the bay in the background. I figured it'd take half an hour. We got carried away. It was early June. For 2 whole days I swam in icy Georgian Bay water. A lot. I jumped off cliffs. I played my guitar and sang "Water Moves Me" at least 50 different times in 50 different places. Sitting in pine trees, on rocks, in canoes. There's lots water footage in this video. There was also a lot you don't get to see, including a coiled, ready to spring, shaking-it's-tail-off massassauga rattle snake just a few yards away from us. A thing of beauty.
Samantha works in the film industry as a script supervisor. She's worked with Norman Jewison, Dustin Hoffman, Denzel Washington. And now me.
She hadn't worked a camera before, but took a shine to it right away. Neither of us had used iMovie...but we figured it out.
It took forever but it was fun. I hope you enjoy this thing. Mostly we wanted to remind you how much joy water can bring.
